Oran Cobb , age 80, was born November 13, 1930 in Gainesville, Texas and passed away or as he put it “reached his Coronation Day” at 5:50 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2011, when he went to meet his Lord and Savior.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oran and Hester Cobb and is survived by his wife of 59 years Joyce; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Otis Hopper of Corning, Calif.; his children, Tom and Gloria Cobb, Republic, Steven and Tani Cobb, Fair Grove, Lynn and Dan Copelin, Springfield, and Doug Cobb, Ozark, as well as 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Oran was proud to have served in the Navy during the Korean War, worked road construction in California after which he became a barber to provide for his family while he attended Baptist Bible College, becoming a pastor for 43 years. His last pastorate was South Campbell Avenue Baptist Church here in Springfield and retired for health reasons in 2004. After retirement he was still involved in the ministry as interim pastor for several churches. He had a true heart for missions, and always was quick to support the missionaries and their families.
Oran was a mentor to many young Bible college students as well as a friend and was loved by all who knew him. He was always quick to smile and make you feel welcome and at home; he put people at ease. He will be missed by his family and all who kenw him.
The family would like to thank Sara Crosswhite, Lynn Niles and all the staff from Regional Hospice and the staff at Brookhaven Nursing home for the wonderful care and genuine concern they showed to Oran and the entire family.
Services will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North with visitation Tuesday, August 9, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. and funeral services will be Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 10 a.m.
