Reverend Dr. Patrick James Donadio went to receive his eternal reward on May 20, 2012, at 72 years of age, leaving behind a legacy of ministry and changed lives across Alaska and the world. He was known for his pioneer spirit and great faith. Patrick was born April 17, 1940 in Schenectady, NY to James and Florence Donadio.
Donadio grew up in gangs on the streets of New York and was radically saved when God spoke to him by name following a revival. After that, in his own words, he was a “marked man” and his vision for the Kingdom began. He went on to attend Pinecrest Bible Institute in Salisbury Center, New York where he received God’s calling to missions in Alaska; He continued his Bible education at Philadelphia College of the Bible; Northeast Bible Institute, Pennsylvania, and Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri and later received his doctorate in theology.
On April 7, 1962, Patrick married his wonderful complement, loving confidante and constant companion, Ruth Spuler.
In June 1965, Pat was ordained by the Alaska District and the Donadios went on to minister in Alaska for more than 20 years as nationally appointed Assemblies of God Missionaries, planting churches throughout Alaska. During his years of pastoring, Donadio led many people to the Lord. He first served in Ft. Yukon and Point Hope, eventually building three churches and pastoring in Tok, Kenai, and Eagle River, where they built their final Alaskan church, King’s Way Assembly of God.
Among his accomplishments, Rev. Patrick Donadio served the Assemblies of God Alaska District as the Youth Director, Presbyter, Assistant Chairmen of the Financial Committee, and as President of Far North Bible College.
Rev. Donadio served as the Director of U.S. MAPS (Mobilization and Placement Service) ministry. In 1991, Donadio was appointed to lead the Home Missions MAPS effort, where he served until 2001. In 2001, Donadio began service with AG World Missions and continued to minister in several capacities. Donadio authored “Touch Me If You Dare” a testimony of God’s never-ending grace.
Beyond his professional achievements, his true loves were his beautiful children and grandchildren.
“Donadio is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth, as well as their two adult children, Dale (Angela) Donadio and Doreen (Robert) Kelley, and his 5 precious grandchildren, Robert Jr, Gabrielle, Caleb, Christian and Gianna; his brother, Bruce Donadio (Helen) and sister, Marietta Guerra.
Donadio had an excellent sense of humor. He was always ready to try any new missions adventure. His view of living meant serving the King of Kings on the mission field.
A Celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Central Assembly of God, 1301 N. Boonville, in Springfield, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: The Patrick and Ruth Donadio Alaskan Assemblies of God Heritage Center, payable to Muldoon Community Assembly, 7041 DeBarr Road, Anchorage, Alaska, 99504.
