I loved my mother very deeply. I remember when I was growing up and I would go to the library where she worked; she would usually be at the card catalog busily filing cards away. She had her special way of chewing gum while she filed and popping quiet little bubbles inside her mouth and barely making a sound. I always thought of it as some kind of private little librarian’s joke. It always amazed and amused me! Mom loved to listen to a variety of music at home. Classical and pop music of the era, but jazz music was her favorite. She had a substantial record collection of various jazz musicians. She fostered a love of music and literature in me that I cherish to this day. And reading, she loved to read! We had books of every kind everywhere in our house. When we lived in Springfield she also loved to garden. She had large flower beds that she would work in every year. I remember because she would have me help her dig up her bulbs in the Fall. The house was always filled with plants and her special favorite – African Violets. She nurtured and cherished those plants. I appreciate the life that she and my father gave me. I hope that her life was all that she wanted it to be. I am sorry that her final years were so very difficult due to various health issues. I am grateful that she is finally at peace. May your memories of her lighten your sorrow.

Peggy was a good companion to me for 15 years and she always said the reason why we were was that we both were stubborn, and I would ask her from time to time how much do you love me, and she would spread her arms way out and say a whole bunch and I would do it right back at her. And I will miss her the rest of my life.

I worked with Peggy at Meyer Library for many years. She was so competent and passionate about her work, but we also enjoyed talking about jazz music and other topics of interest. She was a classy lady, and I hope she enjoyed many happy years of retirement. Rest in peace, Peggy!
