Peggy Joe was born on Jan. 21, 1934 to Ross and Hazel Phillips in Roy, Missouri. On Monday, Oct. 19, she passed away at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, with her family surrounding her.In her younger days, Peggy attended high school in Ava, Missouri. In 1948, Peggy was elected as the Ava High School freshman class representative for homecoming queen. Throughout her time she was a talented seamstress who especially liked making clothing for her daughters. Peggy was also a continuously proud conservative and member of her church, neither of which she was afraid to tell you.Peggy is survived by her husband, Darrell Wayne Brake. The two married on Dec. 23, 1948 in Dogwood, Missouri and began their life together there in Douglas County. Together, they accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior at the Red Bank Baptist Church. Later, they moved their family to Springfield.They were together for almost 67 years.Peggy was also a big sister to Martha Jane Thomas and the late Frieda Mae Cornelison. She lived a joyful life watching over her friends and family, who loved her very much. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Hazel Phillips, sister, Frieda Mae Cornelison and niece, Pamela Thomas. In addition to her husband Darrell, Peggy is survived by two daughters, Dixie Louise Robinson and Judith Ann Brake, with husband, Mark Koenemann; her grandchildren, Angela Moore with husband, Ronnie, Richard and Andrew Robinson, Matthew Browning, and Kassidy Koenemann; as well as her four great granddaughters, Sydni, Tiffani, Sophi, and Alaya and many nieces, nephews and cousins.Her family hopes that they may all continue to lead a long life, like hers, while remembering the numerous lessons she was happy to teach them in addition to the memories she gave them.Peggy’s visitation will be held, Thursday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Green Lawn Funeral Home North. Her funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at New Life Baptist Church in Willard.
