Phil C. Hamblin, 72, of Springfield, died peacefully on Sunday morning, June 16, at Cox Medical Center South. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, he graduated Southeast High School. Phil was a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor for nearly thirty years and served on the Missouri Certification board. Among the places he served were as Treatment Director for the adolescent unit at Lester E. Cox Medical Center, Executive Director of Sigma House, Springfield, MO, and Executive Director of Southeast Community Treatment Center in Salem, MO. He established the Green Oaks substance abuse outpatient office in Plano TX, and he was a counselor for the department of corrections at a penitentiary in Fordland, MO. For the last five years he served at his church helping to establish a Celebrate Recovery ministry for hurts, habits and hangups. He was an avid fisherman, woodworker and storyteller and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Michele Hamblin of Lady Lake, Florida, his son Phil Hamblin of Dallas, TX, his grand children, Parker Hamblin of Dallas, TX, Rhiannon Hamblin of Suisun, CA, and Stevie Hamblin of Lady Lake, FL. He is also survived by his brother, Dan Hamblin of Fort Wayne IN, and sister Pam Shockley of Omaha, NE.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 A.M., Thursday, June 20, 2013 at East Sunshine Church of Christ, 3721 East Sunshine Street Springfield, Missouri 65809. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in the church. Services are under the care of Greenlawn Funeral Home East.
