Ray Buchanan, 79, Springfield, a local well-known house mover, died at 4:25 p.m., February 3, 2013, at Cox Medical Center South. He was born July 3, 1933, in Springfield to Leo and Nellie (Davis) Buchanan.
Ray served in the U.S. Navy four years during the Korean Conflict. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Gordon and Charles. Ray is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois (Childers) Buchanan; four children, Lana (David) Lowry, Steve Buchanan, Jennifer (Dan) Swisher, all of Springfield, and Leah (Dennis) Francka, Idaho; five grandchildren, Richard Choate, III, Shannon Highfill, and Sara Tesch, all of Springfield, Ashley Duncan of Branson, and Seth Francka, Idaho; seven great-grandchildren, Zachary Plevka, Ethan, Lucas and Colton Choate, Avery Kirby, Aiden Wilson and Reagan Tesch, Springfield; siblings, Wendell Buchanan and Wilma Tuckness, both of Springfield, Alice Serrano, St. Louis, and Lois Jones, Joplin.
Ray was privileged to have his daughter, Leah, an RN, as his special nurse during the final week of his life. For this, the family is very grateful.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2013, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 7, 2013, at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Coltharp officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
