Ray Gene Choate, age 78 of Bolivar, MO, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Citizens Memorial Health Care Facility Bolivar, MO.  He was born January 27, 1946, in Greene County, MO, to Marshel R. and Agnes M. (Boswell) Choate, who precede him in death.  He attended Marion C. Early Schools.  He is a US Army veteran, having served overseas during Vietnam.

          Ray was involved with the Ozarks Area Racers Foundation.  He owned racing cars from the 1980’s until he lost his eyesight.  He started volunteering with multiple organizations throughout the years, namely: Meals on Wheels, B.A.M.A, and cooking meals at local churches for those in need.  He gathered used medical equipment to give to those who had no insurance.  He organized and gathered back-to-school supplies at the Bolivar Raceway for the local children. 

          Ray was a man with integrity and grit who in his later years became soft-hearted.  He was a person whose unwavering principles and determination left a lasting impact on all those around him, and he always said, “He loved his children”.

          Ray was a member of Countryside Assembly of God for many years.  The song “Amazing Grace” held a special place in his heart towards the last few years of his life.

          Ray is survived by his wife Donna of the home; three children: Jennifer Robinson, Regina Choate, and Tim Choate (Sarah); four step children: Melissa Johnson (Kevin), Mark Rogers (Kelly), Matthew Hilt, Melanie Chance (Jesse); five grandchildren, 14 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren; one brother Dennis Choate (Rachel); six sisters: Zelma Sullington, Velma Williams, Ann Choate, Susie Burton, Carolyn Mitchell, and Liz Pratt; his fur babies: Gidget and Hoss; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

          According to Ray’s wishes his body will be cremated.  Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 31, 2024, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery Springfield, MO.  Online condolences may be made at: www.greenlawnfuneralhome.com.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel Bolivar, MO.
