My “sunshine baby girl” was carried away on angel’s wings while resting in the arms of her mother.
Rebecca Barton Snead, age 27, flew to heaven September 21, 2010 from Mercy Villa Nursing Home in Springfield, Missouri. Becky suffered a traumatic brain injury July 3, 1999 from a jet ski accident in Alabama. Becky was left without the ability to move any part of her body or to communicate, except through her loving eyes, sweet, radiant smile and sometimes ornery faces.
Becky was tenderly and lovingly cared for by the caregivers and staff at Mercy Villa for the last six years. These nurses and caregivers dressed her, fed her, loved her, painted her fingernails, danced for her, sang for her, told her of their lives and added a quality to her life that she could not give to herself.
Becky came kicking and screaming into this world so very wanted and loved. Her baby days were full of wonder and exploration. She was a sweet, loving little girl, who was curious, precocious and loved her baby sister Abby, most of the time! Becky attended Springfield School System through the 6th grade, attending, Pepperdine and Pershing Schools. The family then moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where Becky attended Berry and Simmons Middle Schools and Hoover High School. Becky developed many interests including, art, swimming, track and basketball. Becky had many friends throughout her short life and was always busy with outside activities. As Becky grew older, it was easy to see she was going to be a beautiful young woman.
Becky’s life did not end with the accident. As Becky received from others, we also learned these last few days, how Becky continued to give life lessons to others, during the past 11 years.
Becky is survived by her mother, Jana Barton, her father, Sam Snead, one sister, Abby Mathis and her husband Nathan and her precious niece Natalie, maternal grandfather, Don “Be-Kaw“ Barton, Aunts and Uncles Judy and Paul Wacker, Jenny and Jim Mohan, Sally and Mark Riegert, Steve and Jackie Snead and Tim and Susan Snead, and many loving cousins.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 24, 2010, from 6-8 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, Springfield, MO. A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 10:30 am also at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
