Retha Mae (Highfill) (Norton) McCurry of Sringfield Mo., received her wings in heaven on June 27, 2012,in her home after a brief illness.
Retha was born May 23, 1931,in Elkland, Missouri. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Tom and Gladys Highfill; sister, Wilma Gauss; and a step-son, Ronald McCurry.
Retha accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age. She was very active in the Gideons Auxillary, and held a variety of offices. Retha was a faithful member of Seminole Baptist Temple for many years.
Retha was married to Robert (Bob) Norton and had two children, Jeff Norton and Jan O’Dell.
Retha was a good and caring mother to her children. She created a magical childhood for them, doting on their many friends. She truly had a family that knew no limits. Her husband, Glen, was blessed to have her as his wife and considered her to be be the most precious wife anyone could ever have. She was also known for her famous peach cobbler and hot rolls, among many other dishes.
Retha is survived by her husband of many years Glen (Pete) McCurry, her son Jeff Norton and wife LeAnn, her daughter Jan O’Dell and husband Rob, and her step-son Dale McCurry. Also surviving are her grandchildren Chad Norton, Lacie (McGill) Barrett, Kacie McGill, Jerrin O’Dell, Jessica McPhail, Luke Palmer, Sean McCurry, Heather (McCurry) Lumley, Gabe McCurry, Jennifer (McCurry) Coonis,. She will be missed by many loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends.
Retha was an angel on earth and with certainty waits for us, tastefully accessorized, with our Lord in heaven.
Services will be held 10:00 A.M Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Seminole Baptist Temple, with burial immediately following at Mt. Olive Cemetery. Vistation will be held Friday evening, June 29, 2012 from 6 to 8:00 P.M. at Greenlawn East Funeral Home. The family request that in lieu of flowers, please make your donations to the Seminole Baptist Temple Building Fund.
