Richard S. Pruitt Jr., 84, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away September 26, 2011, peacefully in his home. He was born December 5, 1926, to Richard Sr. and Myrtle Pruitt in Redforth, Oklahoma. On July 25, 1945, Richard was united in marriage to his loving wife of 66 years, Willa Jean McFarland Pruitt. To this union, they were blessed with four children.
Richard proudly served in the United States Army. He was also a longtime, 64 year, member of the local Laborers’ Union. He was a hard working man, holding many positions in the construction industry in his lifetime.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Willa Jean McFarland Pruitt, of the home; three sons, Ralph Small Pruitt and wife Donna, of Fordland, Missouri, Michael Stephen Pruitt and wife Gail, of Springfield, Missouri, Thomas Richard Pruitt, also of Springfield, Missouri; a daughter, Kathy Jean Pruitt, of Springfield, Missouri; a sister, Nancy Bassak, of Springfield, Missouri; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 3 p.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, Missouri. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will follow the funeral in Danforth Cemetery, Greene County, Missouri, with full military honors.
