Richard “Dick” Squires, the son of the late Arlo “Bud” and Beryl (Winklepeck) Squires, was born on October 11, 1938 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Dick passed away on August 2, 2011 at the age of 72.
Dick was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. His family moved to Rockwell City, Iowa when he was in 5th grade. Dick graduated from Rockwell City High School. Shortly after graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force. After he returned home he worked for the General Telephone Co. and Rural Electric Association for the next five years. Dick spent 45 years in the finance and banking business. In 1957, Dick married Betty Drennan. They had one child, a daughter Kim who was 16 when she passed away as a result of an auto accident. After the death of their only child they divorced after 26 years of marriage. Dick met Judy Ann Behrends and they were married on June 15, 1985. In January of 1986, Dick and Judy moved to Austin, Texas where Dick was in banking and Judy continued her accounting business. Following Dick’s retirement in September 2000, they moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas. In October 2003, Dick and Judy moved to Ozark, Missouri. They enjoyed decorating their new home, antique shopping, traveling and fishing in Canada.
Dick was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Kim and best friend and beloved wife Judy, his parents, his older brother Don and younger brother Jerry. Survivors include Lori Birdsell and husband David of Arizona, Linae Scheel and husband Brian of Texas, Charlotte Dowell and husband Rodney of Texas, Marge Squires of Texas, nieces Angie and Kelly Birdsell, Karlee Scheel, nephews Kyle Scheel, Steve Drennan and Walker and Will Dowell. Brothers-in-law Richard Behrends and wife Denise of Kansas, Glen Behrends and wife Becky of Kansas, Steve Behrends and wife Margaret of Texas, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska.
