Rickey Lee Samsel was born June 18, 1954 to Richard and Thressa Samsel in Springfield, MO. Jesus called him to spend eternal life in Heaven on Saturday, July 20 peacefully in his sleep. Rick is preceded in death by his mother, father, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of 37 years, Fair Grove; his older son, Scott Samsel of Springfield, his daughter and son-in-law, Michael and Kelli Rogers of Crane and son, Bryan Samsel and his fiancé, Shannon Troiano of Shell Knob, his granddaughter, Ella Rogers, which he endearingly nicknamed Boogerbutt, his sister Priscilla Curbow, Springfield, his sister and brother-in-law, Sam and Patty McElroy, Brighton, mother-in-law, Sylvia Cusick, Buffalo, along with a host of in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends, as Dad didn’t know a stranger. He was introduced to the love of his life by a mutual friend, Shyla Gemmell, and married Katherine Cusick on July 2, 1976. Together they raised their kids in a loving, Christian home in Springfield. Rick retired from Associated Wholesale Grocers and filled his free time driving a school bus for Springfield Public Schools. Rick proudly helped bring the union to S.P.S. Bus Drivers. Most recently he drove a bus in Willard and he took pride in transporting students safely to and from school each day. In Rick’s spare time, he and Kathy enjoyed spending time together outside, hanging out at Diamond K with all their friends, and spending time with their granddaughter, Ella. Being a pa was one of his favorite joys in life and Rick was excited for the births of his two expectant grand babies this coming winter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to MDA, Sycamore Baptist Church or to the research organization of your choice. Visitation will be held at Greenlawn North on Tuesday, July 23 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral will be Wednesday, July 24 at 1:00 PM at Greenlawn North.
