Robert Eugene Oleson, age 91, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on January 17, 2025, at Magnolia Square. Robert was born to Dwight Oleson and Florence Oleson on October 1, 1933, in Radcliffe, IA. He was raised in Radcliffe, IA and graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1951. Robert was united in marriage to Martha Thomas on April 19, 1953, in Roland, Iowa. Robert and Martha shared 71 years of marriage before Robert’s untimely passing on January 17, 2025. Robert proudly served in the United States Army for 2 years before his honorable discharge on September 8, 1955. The couple were blessed with 3 children.
Robert was employed initially as a Barber for 5 years. After this he was employed as a Salesman selling beauty supplies for 20 years, and then home awnings and windows for 12 years. When not working, he had many interests and pastimes including fishing, woodworking, boating, gardening and classic car collecting and refurbishing. He was a member of the Kaiser Frazier and Studebaker Ozark Trails clubs. Nothing, however, brought him more fulfillment than spending time with his children and grandchildren. Robert will be remembered as a jokester, lover of home cooking, peanut butter cookies and biscotti.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Dwight Oleson; mother, Florence Oleson; brother, Francis Oleson; sister, Sue Anne Mode; son in law, Paul D. Whittaker Sr. He is survived by his spouse Martha Oleson; son Randy (Carol)Oleson; daughter Cindy Whittaker; daughter Bobbi Matuk (William); grandchildren Sara (Craig)Carnesi, Paul Jr. (Alex) Whittaker, Todd Oleson, Dustin Whittaker, Melissa Whittaker (fiancé Richard Jones II), and great grandchildren: Kathryn and Andrew Carnesi; Skyler, Judah, and Jupiter Whittaker; Teagan and Colson Jones; sister, Floris Hickman; and pet Daisy Mae.
A visitation for Robert will be held on Wednesday January 22, 2025, at 10:30am, followed by a Funeral Service for Robert at 11:00 AM, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South with a burial to follow at Hazelwood Cemetery located in Springfield, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Robert’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association, https://www.alz.org/.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
