Robert (Bob) F. Wadsworth, Jr.
Bob Wadsworth, 71, of Springfield, died in his home on October 6, 2011. He never met a stranger and never hesitated to help anyone in need. Bob was born on July 6, 1940 in Springfield. He was the son of Robert, Sr. and Maxye May Wadsworth and stepson of Alene Wadsworth. He was saved at an early age and was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church. He grew up near Pleasant Hope and attended Pleasant Hope School, where he played baseball and participated in FFA.
In 1963, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Morris. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his son, Jacob and wife, Sheri; and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Madeline; sisters, Carolyn Wadsworth and Nancy Brannon; brother-in-law, Robert Morris; sister-in-law Vivian Spickard; and several nieces and nephews.
He worked for the United States Department of Agriculture for 23 years. Bob was instrumental in creating the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department and was board chairman for several years.
Bob was an avid baseball fan and loved the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing. He loved telling tall tales and visiting with anyone.
Visitation will be Monday, October 10, from 5-7 pm at Greenlawn North Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 11 at Greenlawn North Funeral Home, with Dann Masters officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Comfort Cemetery following the service. Services have been entrusted with Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
