Robert (Bob) Henry Guffey, Jr. ,76, passed away on October 15, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri.
Bob served honorably in the U.S. Army’s 1st Cavalry Division during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of sergeant. He received the Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman Badge and was honorably discharged in June 1972.
After returning home, Bob began a 50-year career in the heating and air conditioning industry. As the owner of Bob Guffey Services in Springfield, he was known for quality workmanship and a strong commitment to his customers, many of whom remained loyal throughout his career. He maintained his master’s license in heating and air conditioning until his passing.
Bob’s love of auto racing began in childhood alongside his father. Throughout his life, he enjoyed the sport as both a participant and an enthusiastic spectator.
Family was equally important to Bob. He always made time for his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. As one nephew fondly recalled, “Uncle Bob was the fun uncle.”
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Henry Guffey, Sr. and Lucille Irene (Reese) Guffey, and his wife, Melissa. He is survived by his sister, Linda G. Thompson; his brother, Jay Guffey (Lisa); Nieces and Nephews: Angela; Allen (Trish); Brian (Juliette); JoLynn; Elyse (Jordan); Elayne (Levi); and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Greenlawn North Cemetery. Bob will be laid to rest beside his parents, grandparents, uncle, and great-niece. A reception will follow at Greenlawn Funeral Home North from 1:30 p.m. til 4 p.m. Friends and family are invited to come share stories and memories while enjoying light refreshments.
