Robert Leonard Fleming, 84 of Rockford, Ill. and Springfield, Mo., was born on November 6, 1924 in Chicago, Ill., and passed away on September 1, 2009 in Springfield, Mo. Robert attended Rockford East High School and the University of Hawaii and Alexander Hamilton University. He served from 1943-1946, and is an Army Air Corps WWII Veteran and received the American Campaign Medal-Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal -World War II Victory Medal-Good Conduct Medal. He was the Vice President of GC Electronics – Textron and Owner and CEO of Carter Corporation until his semi-retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, Lifetime Moose Lodge and Good Sam Club. He enjoyed gardening, travel, recreational vehicles, golf, Chicago White Sox baseball, Green Bay Packers football, fishing and dogs. He married Sandra Lee Tuller Fleming on April 4, 1970 in Woodstock, Ill. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rose and Harold Fleming; brother, Andrew Fleming; and son, Christopher Fleming. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lee Fleming; children, Sean Robert Fleming; brother, Patrick Fleming; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation is at 10 a.m. with Catholic Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Rockford, Ill., on Saturday, September 12, 2009. Graveside services immediately following in Arlington Cemetery, Rockford, Ill. Family suggests donations be made to the ALS Association, Alzheimer’s Association, Humane Society or No Kill Animal Shelter.
