Robert Newton Hancock, known to all as Bob, passed away peacefully at his home on August 6, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. He was 79 years old. Throughout his journey, Bob remained steadfast in his love for Christ, his family, and his friends. His faith never wavered even in his final days. He expressed his gratitude for a life well-lived and the many blessings he had received.
Bob was born on March 29, 1946 in Bloomington, IN to James Monroe Hancock and Mary Ethel (Davis) Hancock both of whom have preceded him in death. Also preceded in death by two brothers Marvin Hancock and Richard Hancock and sister Beverly Porter.
He is survived by his wife Janie of 22 years and a sister Nancy Porter and three children, Clifford, Sheila, Stanley and two step children Tina and James along with numerous grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was deeply proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always ensuring family was at the heart of everything he did.
Bob and Janie spent many years raising cattle with each one given a name. Bob enjoyed taking quiet trips to Versailles with Janie. He had a fondness for Janie’s home-cooked meals, especially her signature honey bun cake. Family gatherings were always filled with laughter, love and an abundance of food, no one ever left hungry.
He had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He built lifelong friendships through his church and military career. His genuine nature and loving spirit made him a friend to all, and his connections were a testament to the depth of his character.
Bob’s love for life was expressed through the little things. Whether it was attending a gospel music festival in a small rural setting or taking a quiet trip. He found joy in the simplicity of life. His carefree spirit and love for the outdoors, especially in the company of those he loved, defined his idea of fun.
Above all, Bob was a man of deep faith. His commitment to the Lord was evident in every aspect of his life. He never missed an opportunity to share his faith with others. He always spoke about the love of God, encouraging his family to live a life in eternity with him. He enjoyed lively debates on matters of faith and life with his siblings.
His life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and community. He lived fully, loved deeply, and gave generously, making the world a better place for all who knew him.
