Robert Ray (Bob) Glover was born on a hot July day (105’ temp) on a farm in Halfway, Missouri to Rex L. Glover and Freeda I. Bacon Glover on July 10, 1934.
Bob passed from this life to be with his Lord and Savior on February 28, 2025, at 5:15 PM, at the age of 90, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Carolyn Kibby Glover of the home, 2 children: Vivian C. Glover and her partner Janice K. Bowler, and son Raymond W. Glover, both of Springfield, Missouri. One Grandson; Thain M. Struhsaker of Washington State and one Granddaughter Izzabella Pierson and husband Anthony Pierson of Springfield, Missouri, and his faithful companion Rose.
Bob is also survived by a sister Bonnie Davison of Halfway, Missouri and brother-in-law Dwight Kibby and his wife Majauana Kibby of Fordland, Missouri, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended friends and family.
He attended Halfway schools from 1st grade thru high school graduation, then went on to attend Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, where he received a teaching certificate and begin his teaching career in Goodson, Missouri. Two years into his teaching career he was drafted by the United States Army and served 17 months in Mainz, Germany plus the reserves after returning home.
One evening, after he returned statewide, while driving from Bolivar to Halfway, he gave a ride to a young lady in his car, they would end up marrying October 8, 1960. His love of teaching took him to many schools throughout Missouri. He then went back to school and earned his bachelor’s degree at Drury College. As his family grew so did his need for a higher paying job, so Bob took a position with probation and parole in St. Joseph, Missouri and the family moved to Savanah, Missouri. From there he brought his family to Springfield, Missouri and began a 20-year career with the Federal Medical Center for Federal Prisoners. After retiring, Bob would return to his 1st love and began a 20-yearlong adventure as a substitute teacher for Springfield Public Schools.
As the Halfway High School Alumni Association president, Bob took great pride in leading the Halfway Alumni Foundation that he helped establish. Since its inception, the Halfway Alumni Foundation has extended annual scholarships to HHS graduates to help them further their education or vocational training
Bob’s life was enriched further by his generous volunteering as a Sunday School teacher and other youth organizations and spent many years with the B.S.A in many roles including Scout Master.
Bob never met a stranger and touched the lives of all who knew him. His gentle kindness and quiet tenderness were what set him apart as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Bob will be missed by many.
