Robert R. Lewis, age 90, formerly of Springfield, Mo., passed away Tuesday, June 18 in the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mount Vernon.
Robert was born April 15, 1923 in Bison, Kan. He graduated from Bison High School. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1965 and retired in 1965 and retired from Civil Service in 1985 with the Social Security Administration. He was awarded the Purple Heart from World War II and the Jubilee of Liberty Award. He married Alice Malone in Springfield on October 18, 1980. Robert was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Springfield.
Robert loved attending and listening to Springfield Cardinals games.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. Lewis and Ruby Vanderford Lewis, and an infant brother.
Robert is survived by his wife, Alice, of the home; daughters: Doris Fransein of Tulsa, Okla., and Jennifer White of Nixa, Mo.; two grandsons: Matthew Fransein of Washington, D.C., and Gage White of Nixa, Mo.; brother, Roger Lewis and his wife Beverly of Plano, Texas.; mother-in-law, Hallie Malone of Farmington, Mo.; brother-in-law, Bob Malone and wife Brenda of Farmington; brother-in-law, Mike Makoev of Springfield; and a host of good friends.
Funeral services will be held in Greenlawn Funeral Home East on Friday, June 21 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be in the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. until the service time. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery following services.
