Ronald “Jack” Dorris was born on March 7, 1925 in Springfield, MO to the late Seth and May Dorris. He passed away on November 2, 2011 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Jack graduated from Willard High School in 1943 and joined the US Navy on June 16, 1943 and was honorably discharged on April 3, 1946. He was a Hospital Apprentice First Class. Jack taught at OAMI Office Machine Trade School for 17 years. He then went into the business of sales and service of office machines, with his wife, before retiring after 20 years of service. For the next 20 years of his life he delivered meals to the elderly. Jack enjoyed fishing and playing with his grandchildren. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, son Larry and brother Loy.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Sylvia, of the home; son, Max Dorris and wife Glenda of Walnut Grove; daughter-in-law, Linda Dorris of Marshfield; four grandchildren, Steven Dorris and wife Robin, Stacey Vallejo and husband Rodney, Mindy Prewitt and Anne Lampe and husband Larry; eight great-grandchildren, Courtney, Ryan, Jennifer, Isabell, Alex, Tony, Casey and Haley; two cousins that were like sisters, Vivian Sloan and Wanda Reynolds; numerous other family members and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 5, 2011 in Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m., in the funeral home.
