Ronald Edwin Hill
October 11, 1931 – December 17, 2023
On December 17, 2023, Ronald Edwin Hill, aged 92, went home to be with the Lord. He was born in Warrensburg, Missouri to Palmer and Lena Hill. He grew up in southwest Missouri and graduated from El Dorado Springs high school in 1949. Ron spent his summers after high school surveying for the Bureau of Land Management and joined the US Air Force at the outset of the Korean war. He went to college at Southwest Missouri State where he was an active member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and was married to the love of his life, Dorcas Ann Taylor on May 17th, 1957. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Arizona State University in 1960 and went to work for Shell Chemical Company in Torrance, California. While working for Shell, he earned his MBA from UCLA in 1965. In 1967 Ron moved his family back to Springfield to assume ownership of What-A-Burger, Inc. which he grew from three to six locations, selling the business in 1974 and going to work for the City of Springfield. He retired as Superintendent of General Services for the city in 1996.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his two younger siblings, Donna Rodebush and Gary Hill, as well as a nephew, Mark Rodebush and son-in-law Shane Scott. He leaves behind his wife Dorcas, son David Taylor Hill and daughter Deborah Jean Scott. He has three Grandchildren – Wesley Scott, Sydney Hill and Palmer Hill. He also leaves behind his Niece, Kelly Neugebauer and her husband James.
Due to sudden illnesses in the family, the services have been changed to a Graveside service at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, not a Chapel service. Also the visitation has been canceled.
