We are heartbroken to announce the death of a loving husband, father, and grandfather, Roy “Junior” Brixey. He passed away peacefully January 30, 2023 at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving wife, Joyce Brixey (Ray) of 59 years and his two sons, Rowdy Brixey, and Chad Brixey. Junior enjoyed gardening and fixing things that most normal men couldn’t. He leaves behind two wonderful daughters-in-law, Tracy Brixey (Wilson) and Amy Brixey (Miller), five grandchildren, Destany, Kyle, Mitch, Kellen, and Griffin along with four great grandchildren, London, Oliver, Otto, and Opal.
He was born in Wright County on April 27, 1942 to Roy and Jane Brixey (Crawford). He had one older sister and four younger brothers. Junior was always a very hard worker on the farm and by age 16 was working at the Springfield Ice Plant as a maintenance technician, but his real talent was discovered after he joined Taystee Bread Bakery as an Operating Engineer in 1964. Junior stayed there until Taystee closed the Springfield location in 1973. Having found his calling he quickly joined Holsum Bakery (later known as Butternut Bread, owned by Interstate Brands Corporation aka Wonder Bread and Hostess Cakes). In 1984 he was promoted to the Plant Engineer and by 1993 he was a Corporate Project Engineer. Junior built and installed very large commercial bakery ovens, proofers and coolers all over the USA until he finally retired in 2005. Later he returned part-time for IBC and managed the Rebuild Shop at the old Kansas City Bakery Troost Plant.
As per Junior’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. His family will be planning a celebration of life at a later date.
