Russell Ellis Shaw, age 77, died suddenly in Springfield Missouri on January 26, 2014. He was born on March 8, 1936 in Wareham, Massachusetts to Russell and Dorothy Shaw. He was beloved by all and known for his kindess and generosity to both friends and strangers. He attended Boston University and graduated from the University of Denver. After serving in the US Army in Japan and Taiwan, Russ began a long storied successful thirty-five year career with the AC Nielsen Company. He started by counting cans of soup on shelves of grocery stores in Los Angeles and peaked with his tenure as Vice President of Industry Relations which saw him represent AC Nielsen at corporate events all over the world. Russ entertained clients and golfed with personalities such as General Norman Schwartzkoff, Walter Payton, and Bill Russell. Russ was always known to have a humorous story and had a great wit. He had a wonderful voice and was known to sing with a little prodding especially on St.Patrick’s Day when he would share his beautiful rendition of ” The Fields of Athenry”. While spending most of his life in the Midwest, Russ was proud of his New England roots and closely followed the Red Sox and Celtics. Russ is survived by his ex-wife, Patricia Shaw, his daughters Melissa Shaw, of San Francisco, CA and Heather Corkery, of Saunderstown,RI his son in law Bob Corkery and his grandchildren, Meaghan and Bobby.
