Ruth Ellen Hill, age 90, of Springfield, Missouri, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on April 28, 2025, at Woodland Manor. Ruth was born to Adrian and Theresa (Proffer) Johnson on February 28, 1935, in Bernie, Missouri, a small town located in southern Stoddard County. Ruth graduated from Malden High School in 1953. Shortly after graduating from high school, Ruth was united in marriage to Perry Joe Hill on June 29, 1953, in the state of Louisiana. She was a proud military wife and traveled with her husband to six different states, with Hawaii being her most favorite. Ruth was blessed with three children, Vicki, Terri, and Scott.
Ruth held several jobs in the retail industry and eventually retired from Hines Lumber Company. Over the years, Ruth had many hobbies and interests. She was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, she enjoyed watching redbirds, taking road trips, and regularly attending Grandview Missionary Baptist Church, where she gave her life to the Lord while in her eighties. Ruth will be deeply missed by her church family and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Adrian and Theresa Johnson; her beloved husband, Perry Joe Hill; brother, Robert “Bob” Johnson; half-brother, Julian Stevens; and two infant brothers. She is survived by her dedicated friend, Margaret Doke; daughter, Vicki Witt and Jon Pereles of Austin, Texas; daughter, Terri Spinabella and her husband, Kirk, of Rogersville, Missouri; son, Scott Hill of Arkansas; and sister Dolores Wetzel and her husband, Dee, of St. Charles, Missouri. Ruth is also survived by five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A visitation for Ruth Ellen Hill will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 am, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. Her funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation, at 11:00 am, with pastor Gary Longstaff officiating. Ruth will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 pm following her funeral service. There will be a formal procession from the funeral home to the cemetery.
