Ruth Pickerill, age 90, of Springfield, MO, passed away Friday, May 13, 2011, at The Manor of Elfindale. She was born February 28, 1921, in Springfield, MO, to John Sol and Alice (Burgess) Owen. She was of the Methodist faith. She moved to Kansas City, MO, during WWII where she met and married Earl Pickerill. They lived there until 1976, when they moved to Royersford, PA. Ruth worked in the antique business with her husband for over 30 years. They moved to Springfield, MO, in 2007. Ruth’s hobbies included painting, golf, and loving care of many cats and dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Stanley Owen; and her sister Una Lilley.
She is survived by her husband Earl of Springfield, MO; a nephew Jack Lilley and his wife Lisa of Springfield, MO; a niece Janice Montgomery and her husband Edward of Palm Desert, CA; as well as other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Hazelwood Cemetery with burial to follow. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southwest MO Humane Society.
