Ruth Wommack McCurry passed away January 24, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Ruth and husband Dolan would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on February 9th.Ruth spent many hours as a child walking the river bottoms with her dad, collecting Indian relics and was an A student at Pleasant Valley, a 2-room grade school. She graduated as an A student from Pleasant Hope High School where she performed in several plays, was on the debate team, the pep squad, and was voted Best Female Citizen her senior year.Ruth then worked several years for the Lawson-Gibbs Abstract Company doing their title searches at the Greene County Court House. She retired in 1956 to raise her family but was sought out by the United States Corps of Engineers to do real estate title work on the land being flooded for the new lakes. Ruth did this since she could work from home, taking care of two boys.She did the title work for Pomme De Terre, Stockton and Beaver Lakes locally and Red Rock in Iowa and Turtle Creek in Kansas. Ruth then became a full-time farmer’s wife and mother, raking hay and hauling her boys to ball practice and games. She also volunteered at Cox Hospital, helping in the nursing home section playing games and even bringing a puppy for “her” old ladies to pet.Ruth will be remembered by all as an excellent cook, a very generous person, and for being a lady. She never said a bad word about anyone. Ruth and Dolan will be remembered by many for playing Santa Claus on Christmas Eve for over 40 years in the community where they gave toys and treats in the kid’s own homes and made Christmas very special. Ruth will be deeply missed by her husband of 66 years, Dolan, her boys and their wives; Danny and Teresa McCurry, and David and Sheryl McCurry, and her grandchildren; Cody McCurry, Katie and Wade Stanley, Lauren McCurry and Zane McCurry. She is also survived by two sisters, Florene and Lesler Williamson and Lorene Hall.Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Dred and Ona Wommack. Services will be Monday, January 27, 2014 at 1:00 pm in Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 pm. before. Burial will be in Mt. Comfort Cemetery.
