Sammy B. Woods, formerly of Ash Grove, was born July 17, 1930 near Halltown, Missouri. He passed away from this Earth on March 23, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
On Sept. 29, 1961, Sam and Gertrude Meadows were united in marriage in Ozark, Missouri. Their love for each other unified three families of brothers and sisters who are proud to call Sam, Dad.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude; children, Bonnie and Tommy; parents; and Grandpa Buzz.
Sam is survived by his five sons, John Woods (Linda) of Aurora, Missouri, Joe King (Virginia) of Nixa, Missouri, Less King of Springfield, Missouri, Robert Woods of Pleasant Hope, Missouri and Jimmy Woods of Kansas; three daughters, Cheryl Parrish (Jerry) of Springfield, Missouri, Candie White (Danny) of Flemington, Missouri, and Sandy Lawson (Eric) of Walnut Grove, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Hobart Woods of Amarillo, Texas and Elsie Andruck of Irvine, California; double cousins, Glen Woods (Jeannie) and Ola Belle Woods; numerous other loving relatives and a host of friends.
During the Korean Conflict, Sam was stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas, where he served his country as an Anti-Aircraft Gun Trainer. Sam is well-known and respected in the plastering trade. In addition to working for Dugger Plastering Company for many years, Woods Plastering was a family owned business which has proudly supported four generations of plasterers. Sam’s unique texturing skills can still be found in homes and businesses in the area and his unique talents have been passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Sam was a wonderful story teller and had a sense of humor that was contagious. His life experiences were passed along to his family through his humorous stories. We all know these stories by heart, and the lessons in life Sam taught us through these stories will live on for generations. Thank you Sam for your unique love that united us together as one family. We are better for our time together.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 26, 2012 in Greenlawn Funeral Home North with burial in to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Willard, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. ~ 5:00 p.m., Sunday, in the funeral home.
