Sandra (Sandy) Lou Adkins was born on April 16, 1944, to Cecil and Helen (Hargrave) Williams in Oskaloosa, IA. She was one of four children. Sandy graduated from North Mahaska High School in 1962.
During her high school years, Sandy worked in the family’s bowling alley as well as the local movie theater, where she eventually met her husband.
Sandy was married to Russell Adkins on October 20, 1962. They were blessed by three children: Michael, Sherrie, and Teresa.
Sandy was always busy! She had a small sign painting business, which ranged from painting signs on windows to painting the sides of semi-tractor and trailers. In 1975 she began working in the Finance Department at Delong’s Sportswear until her retirement in 2004. Sandy also filled the roles of clerk and bookkeeper for the family’s business, Adkin’s Auction Services.
Sandy and Russ moved to Lewisburg, MO in 2004. A year later she started working for Diamond S Auction Company, where she worked until her death.
Sandy loved the Lord, her family, and her church, especially those in her small group. She enjoyed bird watching, painting, and keeping track of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Sandra peacefully left this world to be with the Lord on Friday, March 4, 2022, at the age of 77. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, her parents, Cecil and Helen, and her sisters, Monica Moore, and Debbie Edmundson.
Sandy is survived by her son; Michael (Angie) Adkins of Germantown, OH, daughters Sherrie (Bart) Gensch of Southside, AL, and Teresa (John) Foster of Colfax, IA; 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and her brother, Ron (Jackie) Williams of Woodridge, IL.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Northside Christian Church, under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Visitation will be one hour before services, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the church.
