Sarah Louise Smith, age 97, of Bolivar,
MO, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Parkview Healthcare Facility.
She was born November 28, 1916, in Morrisville, MO, to Virgle
and Mary (Wright)
Box.
She was united in marriage to Orlin H. Smith March 17, 1935. She was a
writer, and published an autobiography of her life as a mother and farmerswife
call “A Farmerswife and a Mothers Journal”.
Sarah also was a artist of paintings, oils, watercolors, and
sketches. She traveled extensively with
family. She taught 4H club and was a
member of the Busy Tuckers Club, Polk County Artist Association, and the
Brighton Baptist Church.
She was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband Orlin H.
Smith; two sons: John R. Smith, and Dan M. Smith; a son in-law Edward Lee
Scroggins; two grandsons: Kaven Smith and Robert Smith; two brothers and their
wives: Joe and wife Merlene Box and Glen and wife Meriam Box; a sister Louanna
Ball; a brother in-law Guy Hinkle; and a great grandson in-law Justin Short.
She is survived by her children: David L. Smith and wife Ruth of
Stockton, MO, and Mary Lou Scroggins of Fayetteville, NC; two daughters in-law:
Norma Smith of Kansas City, MO, and Carol Smith of St. Charles, MO; eight
grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren; a
sister Wanda Hinkle of Blue Springs, MO; as well as numerous other relatives
and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm
Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Pitts Chapel with Rev. Richard Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held an hour before
service from 12:00 to 1:00 pm in the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel Bolivar,
MO.
