Saundra Sue Rhodes, age 73, of Springfield, MO, passed away Friday, February 27, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on February 12, 1942, in Springfield, MO, to William and Olive (Oliver) Burdette. She was a lifetime member of the Second Baptist Church. Saundra earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and spent 25 years dedicated to inspiring children. She was an avid gardener and home decorator. She enjoyed spending her retirement at the lake fishing and shopping for bargains.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters: Peggy Willoughby and Patricia Wheeler. Survivors include: daughter Sheri Wadsworth and husband Jacob of Springfield, son Randy and wife Debbie of Leawood, KS; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; sisters: Beverly Smith and JoAnne Greene and husband Joseph.
Funeral services will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North on Tuesday March 3, 2015 starting at 3:00 pm, with visitation at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Rhodes was my 5th grade teacher at Delaware Elementary. She was tough as nails and funny to boot. I’ll never forget her saying, “Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, and we’re not playing either” or giving a presentation about not saying the “p” word in her class, she which turned out to be peach. Rest in peace.

We are so saddened thy Saundra’s passing. She was such a constant worker at all of the reunions, and her talents there will be missed by all of us. But beyond that, Saundra was such a good person. We always appreciated her wit and humor. She was a blessing to all she came into contact on this earth, and we are sure she will help organize the Angels above. Blessings to all the family and those closest to her. Bless your soul dear friend.

My heart goes out to the family and friends. I knew Saundra when I worked at Delaware she was always up beat and never had a bad word for anyone. RIP Saundra until we met again. I will miss your smile

Without a doubt, Mrs. Rhodes was and will be a lasting influence on so many. Whether you were blessed to know her as a friend, colleague or student, you were truly lucky in this life.

CHS Class of 1960– fellow classmate. I have many fond memories of Saundra. She will be missed. Prayers and blessings to her family.

I was saddened to hear about Mrs. Rhoades passing. She was an incredible teacher and in fact my first teacher at Delaware after moving that summer. In all of my education she is one of the few teachers that has stood out in my mind. I loved our 5th grade class. She was a wonderful teacher and wonderful woman. Thoughts and prayers.

Randy, Sherry and families, So sorry to read of Sandy’s death. I always enjoyed visiting with her when we ran into each other and your family were good neighbors for many years on Linwood St. My thoughts and prayers are with you-my deepest sympathy.
