Shirley Ellen McGaughey, 66, Springfield, died Thursday, September 5, 2013 in Mercy Hospital, after a long illness. Shirley was born April 20, 1947 on the family farm at Moody, Mo. to Edward and Ruth Foster. Shirley graduated from Excelsior Springs, Mo. High School, in 1965. On January 2, 1970, she married John R. McGaughey; to this union, a son John F. McGaughey was born May 2, 1971. She was a long time member of National Heights Baptist Church.Shirley was preceded in death by her parents of Excelsior Springs, and a brother Dan Foster of West Springs, Mo. She is survived by her husband John, of the home; a son and his wife John and Vanita McGaughey of Clever, Mo.; two grandsons: Ian James McGaughey and Seth Andrew McGaughey; a brother Jim Foster (Virginia) of Rayville, Mo.; and two sisters: Vicki Gardner (Grey) and Janie Ardese (Anthony) both of Excelsior Springs. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 10:30 am in National Heights Baptist Church; burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in Greenlawn Funeral Home North.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Greene County Baptist Association Boys Camp or to The American Cancer Society.
