Shirley Marie (Dostal) Gass, age 91 of Sparta Missouri, left this earth to go home to her Lord and Savior on August 7th, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born in Kansas City, MO on April 17th, 1935 to Shirley Marie (Hatch) and George Brassart Dostal as the second of seven children. She was joined in marriage to her husband Paul James Gass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Kansas City on November 19th 1955. They were married for 63 years. She was a proud United States Navy wife and was blessed with seven children. After her husband retired from the Navy in 1968, she and her family settled in Sparta, Missouri. Shirley was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church for 52 years. Throughout Shirley’s life, her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her greatest joy. She took every opportunity to share God’s great love with those she encountered and is a powerful prayer warrior. We love our Grammie and she always made sure we all knew the love that Jesus has for us. She also had an avid interest in health and wellness. She is survived by her children: Christi Wilson (Danny) of Phillipsburg, MO, Susie Thorne (David) of Claremore, OK, Paul Gass Jr (Margo) of Independence, MO, Julie Johns of Springfield, MO, Gary Gass (Susan) of Gladstone, MO, Cindy Teasdale (Rodger) of Indianola, IA, Angela Sinclair (David) of Catonsville, MD, and Rick Johns of Sparta, MO. She was the loving Grammie to Brandon, Lauren, Jeremy, David Paul, Rachel, Adam, Brittany, Isaac, Amanda, Eli, Keith, Sydni, Julianna, Ricky, Elizabeth, Allison, Zachary, Ashley, Matthew, Sam, Ben, Wil, Mason, Finley, Annabelle, and Josie. She was the loving Great Grammie of Hunter, Remington, Tripp, Paxton, Abbigail, Reed, Rubi, Robbie, Nearee, Adeleen, Isaiah, Jayden, Luke, Derek, Averie, Jude, Lazarus, Ezekiel, Malachi, Sadie, Lilly, Sophia, Jude, Danica, Ruthie, Hazel, Juniper, Jonah, Brooklyn, Elliette, Magnolia, Oak, and Forest. She is also survived by many siblings, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Paul and her daughter in law Lisa Gass. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 12th at 3:00pm at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Ozark, MO, with rosary starting at 2:30pm and dinner following the Mass. A visitation will be held after the dinner at Greenlawn Funeral Home in Ozark, from 6:00-8:00pm. The burial will be held on Thursday, August 13th at 1:00pm at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
