Shirley Fay (Medley) Sallee, daughter of John S. and Amy Medley was born August 22, 1937 in Springfield, Missouri. She departed this life at the age of 74 on November 17, 2011 at her home in Fair Grove, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was the beloved wife of Boyd Walton Sallee who survives her at the home they built in Fair Grove, Missouri. On September 19th of this year, they celebrated 54 happy years of marriage. She was blessed with four children whom she loved and adored.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael E. Sallee of the home in Fair Grove, Missouri, David W. Sallee and his wife, Lori, also of Fair Grove, Missouri; and one daughter, Debra S. (Sallee) Hughes and her husband Danny, of Marionville, Missouri.
She was an adoring grandmother to seven grandchildren, Michael Sallee of New York, New York, Amy Sallee of Lake Elsinore, California, Blake Sallee of Springfield, Missouri, Clay Sallee of Fair Grove, Missouri, Jannifer White and her husband Steve, of Fort Polk, Louisiana, Chris Cook, and Derick Cook, both of Marionville, Missouri. She leaves behind two precious great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Dominic White, of Fort Polk, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by one son, Donald W. Sallee; her parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
Shirley was actively involved in the National Association of Postal Supervisors Auxiliary and served as president of the Missouri State branch for a period of four years. She enjoyed traveling. With her husband Boyd, they visited all 50 of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. She was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and was delighted to see them win the World Series this year. Her hobbies included family camping trips, fishing at Table Rock Lake, flower gardening, reading, crocheting, sewing, and cooking.
Her family and friends will forever treasure the memories of Sunday dinners, special events, and holiday meals prepared and served by her loving hands.
A graveside service, under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North, will be held Monday, November 21, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri, with the Reverend Reford Bagley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Oxford Hospice. The family extends their gratitude to all those at Oxford Hospice who assisted Shirley with compassionate care after her diagnosis with lung cancer. They enabled her to finish her life’s journey with dignity, grace, and peace.
A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, she will forever be loved and treasured in all our hearts.
