Sidney “Sid” Manes, 71, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away at his home on August 24, 2026.

Sid was born at home in the Bolivar, Missouri, area on June 15, 1955, to Homer and Wila Manes. He was born and raised in Bolivar and graduated from Bolivar High School in 1973. Later that same year, on December 14, 1973, he married the love of his life, Vickie Manes. Together, they shared nearly 53 years of marriage, building a life centered around family, laughter, and love.

Sid worked for Associated Wholesale Grocers in Springfield, Missouri, for 34 years before retiring in 2017.

To know Sid was to know someone who was always ready to have a little fun. He was a jokester, silly, giving, and constantly looking out for the people he loved. You could always count on Sid to have an endless supply of candy in his pocket and band-aids in his wallet. He had a way of making ordinary moments memorable and his sense of humor brought laughter to his family throughout the years.

Above all else, Sid loved being a Papa. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he made sure they knew how much they meant to him. He rarely missed an event, whether it was football, track, volleyball, softball, concerts, or anything else they were involved in. He gave them his time, his attention, and his whole heart.

Sid enjoyed NASCAR racing, traveling and visiting new places, tinkering with wood projects, playing games, baking cinnamon rolls, making jerky and homemade noodles, family dinners, decorating for every season, and going to Menards. But many of his happiest moments were the simple ones spent with his family.

His daughters and grandchildren will always remember lawnmower rides, playing hide-and-seek and H-O-R-S-E, watching cartoons together, and hearing him sing “Davy Crockett.” His granddaughters especially enjoyed dressing and shopping with their Papa. And, true to Sid’s playful nature, many family members will never forget the times he hid snakes just to scare them. He loved watching The Andy Griffith Show & The Beverly Hillbillies, spending time with his family, and finding ways to make everyone laugh.

Sid leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will carry his love with them. He is survived by his beloved wife, Vickie Manes; daughters, Shawna Bevans (husband, Matt Bevans) and Staci Barnhouse (husband, Brian Barnhouse); grandchildren, Devin Kottwitz (fiance, Mollie Goodwin), Daelyn Kottwitz, Darian Kottwitz, Ridley Bevans, and Kaia Bevans; and sisters, Jean Kirby (late husband, JR Kirby), Connie Cook (husband, Charlie Cook), and Joann Brown (husband, Marlin Brown)

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Wila Manes, and his sister, Dorothy Beasley.

Sid was a husband, Dad, brother, Papa, and friend who gave generously of his time and love. He showed his family that some of the greatest moments in life aren’t the big ones, but the everyday moments spent laughing, playing, showing up, and being together.

His family will miss his laughter, his jokes, his stories, and the countless ways he made life more fun. Most of all, they will miss their Husband, Dad and Papa—but the memories he made with them will live on for generations.
