In Loving Memory of Skylr Rose Lee Thurgood (July 24, 2023 – October 1, 2025)
Skylr Rose Lee Thurgood, a radiant soul who touched countless hearts in her brief time on Earth, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of two, due to complications stemming from early trauma. Though her life began in unimaginable hardship, it became a testament to resilience, love, and the healing power of family.
After suffering severe brain trauma early in life, Skylr spent over a month hospitalized, fighting with quiet strength and courage. But her story did not end in tragedy—it transformed into one of hope.
Placed in the loving care of Guyla and Jason Thurgood of Ash Grove Missouri, Skylr found her forever family. Surrounded by her siblings Naomi, Andru, Tyler, Caleb, and Elija, and her furry companions Pickle and Buttercup, she began to blossom. What once was fear of touch became a craving for snuggles. Her gentle spirit slowly emerged, nurtured by the warmth of a home that cherished her.
Skylr was cared for with unwavering devotion by her home nurse, Tina Findley. Their bond was sacred—an unbreakable connection forged through trust, tenderness, and time. Tina wasn’t just a caregiver; she was a safe place, a constant, and a comfort.
She was also supported by an extraordinary team of nurses, specialists, and surgeons at Mercy Springfield and Mercy Children’s in Kansas City, who never gave up on her. Her therapists—Jordan, Sarah, Julie, and Alan—who visited her at home, each had a special bond with her and helped her overcome obstacles that once seemed insurmountable.
Skylr’s favorite moments were spent watching Ms. Rachel’s Songs for Littles, which brought her joy and calm when the world felt overwhelming. Her baby blue eyes held a depth that captivated everyone she met. She inspired strength, compassion, and awe in those around her.
Skylr’s life, though short, was filled with transformation. She taught us that healing is possible, that love can rewrite a story, and that even the smallest among us can leave the deepest imprint. She was set to be officially adopted by Jason and Guyla Thurgood on November 12, 2025—a day that would have marked the beginning of a new chapter in her beautiful journey.
Though our hearts ache with her absence, we find peace in knowing that Sky has returned home to her Heavenly Father and her Savior Jesus Christ. She is now held in divine arms, free from pain, embraced by eternal love.
Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who held her, fought for her, and loved her fiercely.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 AM Saturday, October 11, 2025, with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 noon, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: 320 W. Jackson Street, Willard, MO 65781. Burial will follow at the Ash Grove Cemetery Ash Grove, MO. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel Bolivar, MO.
Rest gently, sweet Skylr Rose. You were—and always will be—a light in the darkness.
