Stella Doris Flattery, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, was born April 27, 1914, and passed away April 21, 2011, at the age of 96. She lived a remarkable life.
Daughter of George Engel, who was a Methodist minister, and Jessie Jones Engel, who was a school teacher, Stella grew up in Kansas where she taught Sunday School and received awards for piano and painting. The two pastored in Kansas before planting churches in West Africa as missionaries.
Upon returning to the States after serving 20 years, Stella finished her B.A. at Evangel University and an M.A. at Drury University. She taught third grade in Fair Grove, MO, until the age of 66. After retirement, Stella resumed her painting of oils and enjoyed regular gatherings with family and friends.
Stella was a long-time member of Central Assembly of God Church and a more recent resident of Maranatha Village where she was loved for her positive attitude.
Preceded in death by her husband, George, Stella is survived by her children, Warren and Jean Flattery, George and Esther Flattery, Doris and Allen Repko, Sharon and Ron Barefield; her grandchildren, George and Debbie Flattery, Mark Flattery, Lisa Flattery, Mark and Stephanie Repko, Ashli and Matt Hess, Kris Barefield, and Brooke and Jon Bryan; her great-grandchildren, Christie and Andy Cummins, Becky Flattery, George David Flattery, Ethan Flattery, Luke Flattery, Seth Flattery, Rachelle Hess, Raelyn Repko, and Bennett Bryan; her great-great-grandchild, Georgia Cummins; and several nephews and nieces.
