
Steven Lee Friend, 74, passed away peacefully in his home on January 10, 2026. He was born on April 13, 1951, to Rex Friend and Pauline McMillin, in Springfield, MO.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Eugene Friend; his dearest friends Tim “Hawkshaw” Legan, Mark “Doc” Shaffer, and Samuel Jiminez; and his deeply loved and forever-missed furry companion, Shakesphere.
He is survived by his brother Gary Friend and sister-in-law Brenda Friend; his sister Regenia K., sister Terresa Maples and brother-in-law Kenny Maples; his daughter Malaina and her husband Pat Gartin; his grandson Tyler Elliott and wife Sammie Elliott, and grandson Jacob Elliott; his great-grandson Steven Elliott, his cherished namesake; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a few truly good friends who became family.
Family was everything to Steven. He was an amazing dad, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend—fiercely loyal, endlessly loving, and always present for those he cared about. He carried a childlike sense of wonder and awe throughout his life, finding joy in the simple things and beauty in the world around him.
Steven was a man of many passions. He was a musician, a nature lover, a motorcycle rider, and a car enthusiast with a knack for small engine repair. He loved animals deeply and proudly wore the title of devoted dog and cat dad. Known for his humor and quick wit, Steven was a natural jokester who could make anyone laugh, often when they needed it most.
Adventurous at heart and strong in faith, Steven was a devout Christian whose life reflected kindness, generosity, and quiet strength. He was a good friend in the truest sense, steady, loyal, and always willing to lend a hand or share a smile.
Steven Lee Friend will be remembered for his love of family, his gentle spirit, his laughter, and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
