Susan “Sue” Ann Schiman (Abel), age 59, was called home to Heaven on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, after a courageous fight for her life. She was born April 27, 1960 to Robert L. and Clara V. Abel in Colby, Kansas. She was the 4th of six children: Dennis, Diana, Vickie, Sue, Tara and Patrick. She spent time with her siblings and loved them dearly. She supported her family in their recent health struggles, which included 3 of her sisters battling cancer, never thinking of herself and her own illness being fought.
Sue graduated from Omaha South High School in 1978, and went on to study nursing at Clarkson College of Nursing where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She worked as an RN at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, NE and later moved to Missouri, where she went to work for Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO. Her nursing career was very much a part of her life, and she thoroughly enjoyed her work. Sue retired from Cox South in 2018.
She was an active member of James River Assembly, and spent much of her time strengthening her faith with her Lord and Savior. She volunteered her time to local organizations, with one of her favorites being Cherish Kids – a group that helps orphaned and foster children.
Sue was a mother, but above all, she loved being a Grandmother. Her first Grandchild, Maci Leigh arrived in December 2014, followed by Kalli Jolyn in July 2017. She enjoyed spending time with them and left an imprint on them that they will cherish forever.
Sue is survived by: her furry companion, Bella; her mother, Clara Abel (Louisburg, MO); her son, Jeff Schiman, daughter-in-law Vicki, and granddaughters Maci Leigh & Kalli Jolyn (Mt. Vernon, MO); her son Russ Daugherty (Springfield, MO); her son Ryan Daugherty, daughter-in-law Sam (Kansas City, MO); her brother Dennis Jones (Louisburg, MO); her sister Diana Gable (Buffalo, MO); her sister Vickie Brinkman (Buffalo, MO); her sister Tara Gardner, husband Mark (Elkland, MO); her brother Patrick Abel, wife Kolette (Arizona); dear friends in Christ, Steve & Mona Bates (Springfield, MO); and multiple nieces, nephews and friends.
