Thomas Bailey Hill, 94, was born July 1, 1926, to Forest and Nancy Hill in Nebo, Missouri. He passed away February 15, 2021, in Springfield, Missouri, due to heart failure. Known to all by his middle name, Bailey, he grew up in a preacher’s home and was a member of Cedar Bluff Baptist Church in Nebo. He married Berthena Farless in 1944 in Mountain Home, Arkansas, and then moved to California in 1947. He came to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior three days before his tenth birthday. As he grew in his faith, he became involved in the work of the Lord through the church. He was ordained and served as a deacon at First Southern Baptist Church in Wasco, California. He later served as deacon at First Baptist Church in Nixa, Missouri. The focus of Bailey’s life was his Christian faith, which he loved to share even in his last days. He used every opportunity to share Christ with the people he encountered. He worked over 40 years as a foreman of the Howard Hay Company in Wasco, California, retiring in 1990. He and his wife Berthena returned to Nixa, MO, in 1994, where they enjoyed seeing family more often in the area they grew up. He and Berthena were married 65 years, prior to her passing in 2009. In later years he moved to an Independent Living apartment at Nixa Nursing and Rehab, and shared with everyone how much he loved it and the kindness he received there. Bailey was a generous and loving man, always helping and being a wonderful friend to all. He was always saying to anyone, old friend or new acquaintance, “Has anyone told you lately that you are appreciated? I want you to know I appreciate you.” He also never missed an opportunity to say, “I love you.” He loved to tell stories and talk about the good old days. He enjoyed the guitar, singing and writing songs about Jesus, life and love. One of his favorite and memorable lines when anyone was leaving out the door, “Take care and keep it between the fences.” He was predeceased by his parents, brother Elbert Hill, his wife Berthena Hill, and son Dr. Gary Hill. He is survived by his son Dwayne (and wife, Linda) Hill of Nixa, MO, and daughter Janice (and husband, Noel) Greenwalt of Battlefield, MO; grandchildren Kirk, Julie, Lisa, Bailey, Shobi, Steven and Mark, and eleven great grandchildren. He loved each of them dearly. Visitation will be at Greenlawn South, Monday, February 22, at 1pm, followed by funeral at 2pm, with Pastor Richard Eakins officiating.
