Thomas Raymond Shane, 85, went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2023. Tom was a graduate of Central High School. He was a member and Deacon of Grant Avenue Baptist Church. Tom loved working on cars and anything with an engine. He rebuilt a 1954 Ford just like the one he drove in high school. He was proud to say that he spent 23 years with Uncle Sam as he served in the Army National Guard. There he was tied to the 1106th Aviation Unit and became a helicopter mechanic and achieved the rank of Sargeant First Class. He loved trains. For his 80th birthday he took a trip to Ely, Nevada to drive a steam engine. He also was proud to tell everyone that he was the owner of 36 model trains.
Tom was one of 8 children. He always said he was next to the caboose. Tom married his sweetheart, Edwina Marlene (Lamar) Shane in 1960. They were blessed with 2 children—Beth and Phillip.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene, grandson Brandon Shane and great-grandson Waylon McAnally. Also preceding him were his father and mother, Maurice Shane and Esther (Clayton) Shane, 3 sisters, Jackie (Shane) Mears and her husband Ralph, Patsy (Shane) Bowling and her husband Chet and Anna Louise Shane, 2 brothers, Maurice (Bud) Shane and his wife Eddie and James (Jim) Shane, brothers in law John Lamar, Von Morgan, and Ralph Looney.
Tom is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Ann Shane-Clark and her husband John, son Phillip Shane and his wife Valerie, grandchildren Erica Shane, Adam Clark and his fiancé Grace Dixon, Audrey (Clark) McAnally and her husband Kruz, Andrew Clark, and Brandon’s fiancé April Allen, his great granddaughter Lilliana Clark, sister Evelyn (Shane) Looney and brother Barry Shane and his wife Anne, sisters-in law Pat Shane, Harriet (Lamar) List and her husband Rick, Barbara (Lamar) Morgan and brother-in-law Joe Lamar as well as many other family and friends.
Visitation for Mr. Shane will be Tuesday, September 5, 2023, 10:00am – 12:00pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
Graveside Services will be at White Chapel Cemetery Tuesday, September 5, 2023, 1:00 pm.
