Troy A. Burgess
Troy a. Burgess, age 97, of Springfield, Mo., passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010, in Marantha Village. He was born January 16, 1913, in Springfield, Mo., to Tony and Ethel (Biggs) Burgess. He was a member of National Heights Baptist Church. He was the choir director in East Avenue Baptist Church and sang at many funerals. He was employed with the Springfield Fire Department for 35 years retiring as captain. Troy also worked in Greenlawn Funeral Home North for 12 years. He was married in 1936 to Louise Brittain and they were married for 70 years. Troy was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, in 2006; a brother, Jack Burgess; and a sister, Virginia Haden. He is survived by two nieces, Shirley Brunson and Jennifer McCullough; one nephew, Morris Rothermel; two great nieces, Shannon Rodman and Payge Reaves; two great nephews, Jeff Brunson and Brian Rothermel; and by many other great nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010, in National Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Vaughn Weatherford officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
