After a brief illness, Troy Lee Powers left this world early Tuesday morning, December 18, 2012, to rest in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Troy was born in Hollister, Missouri on January 31, 1933 to Joseph Green Powers and Mary Agnes Ryan. He married the love of his life, Ola Kathleen Taylor, on June 3, 1952 and two children were born to the union.
Troy was a servant-leader throughout his life. He was trained to grade lumber as a young man in the saw mills of Featherfalls, CA and was also in ROTC at Orville High School in Orville, CA. He served in the US AirForce and was deployed to Korea in 1954. In addition to being an Airman for 4 years active-duty and 4 years reserves, Troy also worked as a fireman for 7 years before attending Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO where he graduated in 1971 with a B.S. in Theology. He had a passion for missions and for the preaching of God’s Word. Troy was employed at Cox Hospitals in Springfield, MO for 25 years, where he served alongside his wife and retired in 1996.
Troy was known as a man of God who was a gentle husband and father, and a faithful friend. His wife describes him as the kindest, most loving person she has ever known. Troy honored and served his Lord, placing his faith as a top priority in his life. Likewise, he honored and served his family and the people around him. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church in Bolivar for 26 years. Additionally, he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and missions committee member during his years at Berean. Troy and Ola have also been actively involved in Polk County’s Senior Center and the “Young at Heart” fellowship Berean offers at the center.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one brother, and his son, David Allen Powers. He is survived by his wife, Ola, of the home; daughter, Kathy Yvonne Singleton, of Lakewood, WA; grandson, Justin Beaver and wife Shana, and granddaughter Tiana Beaver, all of Portsmouth, VA; 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, family members, and friends. Troy will be greatly missed. The family rejoices knowing they will be reunited one day.
A celebration of Troy’s beautiful life will be held in his honor.
Visitation will be Monday December 24, 2012 at 10 AM followed by a memorial service at 11AM, interment will be at Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Springfield, MO at 2PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Troy Powers Memorial Fund through Pitts Chapel, Bolivar, MO.
