Veda M. Wray, 87, Springfield, died June 27, 2012 in Cox Hospital surrounded by her family. Born June 25, 1925, to Ted and Faye (Mahan) Wilbanks in Pontiac, MO. She was united in marriage to Hershell Wray on June 13, 1943. They began their life together in a variety of locations from Missouri to California.
The Wrays made their home in Kansas City, MO for 44 years where she worked as a hair dresser before retiring to Springfield in 1992. After retiring she enjoyed reading, crafting, prowling antique stores and spending time with family and friends.
Veda was a faithful member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where she became part of the caring church family. Throughout her life she was a dedicated Christian and shared her faith willingly to all.
Veda was preceded in death by her husband, Hershell H. Wray, infant daughter, Neita Paulett Wray, brother Burlene Wilbanks and her parents, Ted and Faye Wilbanks.
She is survived by a sister, Kathryn Owens and husband Doyle of Sparta, MO, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2012 in Greenlawn Funeral Home South, 441 W. Battlefield and services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2012 in the funeral home with Rev. Hosea Bilyeu officiating. Burial will follow in Pontiac, MO at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church (Remington Fund) or Alzheimer’s Association .
