Vena Grace Shaffer of Springfield peacefully passed to her heavenly home November 30th, 2013. She was born October 23rd, 1933, in Gainesville, MO to Floyd and Ruby Deatherage. Following the death of Floyd, Ruby married H.V. Collins. Hubie was a wonderful father to Vena and grandpa to his many grandchildren.
Vena graduated from Gainesville High School. She married the love of her life, Orville Shaffer in Mtn. Home, AR, December 1, 1951, and to this union two children were born. Vena was a stay-at-home mom until beginning employment at Evangel University. She retired in 1990. She was a member of Oak Grove Assembly of God Church. She was an excellent cook and loved cooking for her family. Vena was a true believer in the power of prayer and read her bible daily.
Vena was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother Floyd Deatherage Jr., and her husband Orville in which she was married to for 61 years. She is survived by her daughter, Rita Shaffer and Dennis Dugan; son, Wendell Shaffer and wife, Jackie; grandchildren , Kellie VanLaningham and Ryan Shaffer; great grandchildren, Rylee and Max VanLaningham; brother Ronnie Collins and his wife Carole; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 6, 2013, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oak Grove Assembly of God Church.
