Vera N. Bowline, age 88, of Ozark, Missouri, passed away on May 12, 2026, at the Oaks Cottage in Ozark. Vera was born on August 11, 1937, to Oscar and Almyra (Sanders) Gerhart in Stover, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Donald Bowline on August 15, 1972, in Sedalia, Missouri, and shared many happy years of marriage before Don’s untimely passing on October 21, 2012.
Vera was a twenty-four-year employee of Ryder Bus company where she also worked in the safety office. After her retirement, Vera enjoyed her volunteer work with Special Olympics and working as a first responder for the local volunteer fire department. She also enjoyed square dancing with Don, bowling, fishing, and gospel music. She especially enjoyed her summer free time at the lake house where she loved to entertain her many grandchildren.
In addition to her sweetheart Don, Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Almyra Gerhart; two daughters, Beverly Bowden and Darlene Braden; son, Nelson Eighmy; granddaughter, Tosha Smith; and great-grandsons, Cory Eighmy and Austin Smith; brother, Nelson Gerhart; and sisters, Lillie Gearens and Ruby Johnson Gregg. She is survived by three children: Sandra Welpman and her husband, Randy; Pamela Lester and her husband, Mike; Andrew Laas and his wife, Michelle; and daughter-in-law, Connie Eighmy. In addition to her own children, Vera is also survived by Don’s loving children: Angie Pietz and her husband Allan; Gayle Bowline; and Troy Bowline and his wife, Jana. Vera was blessed with an abundance of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many wonderful friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 10:30-11:30 am, at Greenlawn Funeral Home and Life Tribute Center in Ozark with a funeral service to follow the visitation at 11:30 am. Following the service Vera will be laid to rest next to her husband, Don, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Vera’s memory to Fair Haven Children’s Home in Strafford, Missouri.
