Verdin Duane Street, 86, of Fordland, MO, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026.
Born on October 5, 1939 in Cedar Gap, MO, he was the beloved child of Roy and Della Street.
Verdin attended high school in Mansfield, MO, and at the age of 17, he honorably chose to serve his country by joining the United States Army. During his time in the Army, Verdin traveled to Germany and Lebanon. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri for basic training, and was sent to Fort McClellan in Alabama to be in a chemical unit, he was also on a swimming team, and was given an award as an expert marksman. Verdin was a proud veteran and he carried that perspective from the military into his everyday life.
In 1960, Verdin married Rebecca Farr, and together they built a beautiful life and shared nearly 66 years of marriage. In the early years of their marriage they lived in New Mexico and Arizona. To this union, three daughters were born: Lisa Ann, Sandra Gail, and Tammie Colene. Eventually Verdin and his family moved back to Missouri and settled in the Rogersville, MO, area.
Verdin and Rebecca enjoyed taking trips in the fall to Arkansas or Colorado, where they experienced and appreciated the outdoors and nature together. They took pride in their home, lawn, and garden, where they cherished many memories of time with their family throughout the years. They attended Glendale Christian Church in Springfield, MO. Verdin also served as a member of the Kiwanis Club of North Springfield, MO, for several years and he served as president for one of those years.
After his time in the military, Verdin worked as an auto mechanic for close to 10 years. Following that, he took a job as a driver working at RC Cola, and eventually became a sales manager which led to his career in sales. From there, he started working in home security sales where he dedicated nearly 30 years and met many people in Springfield and surrounding areas. At the age of 72, he retired from American Detection Specialists in Springfield, MO.
Beyond his professional and family life, Verdin was passionate about the outdoors and nature and he loved cutting firewood. He was an accomplished hunter and he had an entire room of turkey tails, and a closet full of camouflage—he knew how to make turkey calls with his hands, and it was always a hit with the grandkids when they were small.
Anyone who met Verdin knew about his infamous extremely firm handshakes, but everyone who knew him knew his quiet type of humor, and how those handshakes became a sort of rite of passage. Verdin was not a person of many words, but he showed his love with his actions. He was always a person of integrity and reliability, and even though he didn’t say it out loud very often, he loved his family unconditionally.
Verdin is survived by his wife Rebecca Street; his three daughters Lisa Johns, Sandra and husband Tony Loveland, and Tammie Street; grandchildren Cheryl and husband Kyle Maddox, Justin and wife Michelle Johns, Devin Loveland, Christopher Loveland, Cassandra Loveland, Hailey Johns, and Leighton Street; nine great-grandchildren; sisters Shirley and husband Charles Peck, and Barbara Tillman; brothers-in-law Austin and wife Gwen Farr and Winston and wife Debbie Farr; sisters-in-law June and husband Gayland Jones and Lana Hilt; cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Della Street; an infant brother, brothers Roy Street, James and wife Aletha Street and John (Jay) and wife Lois Street; sisters Marjorie and husband Bill Turner and Billie and husband Herbert Cobb; parents-in-law Claude and Sybil Farr; brothers-in-law Ed Tillman, Clayton Farr, and Ronald Hilt; and sister-in-law Teresa Hardin.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Nixa Nursing & Rehab and Preferred Hospice for the excellent care and love they provided for Verdin in his last years.
A visitation will be held at 11:00 AM on June 22, 2026, followed by funeral services at 12:00 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home East located at 3540 East Seminole, Springfield, MO 65809. Followed by a military interment ceremony at Shiloh Cemetery, Rogersville, MO. All who knew and loved Verdin are welcome to attend.
