Verna Lea Barcomb, 75, of Springfield, went to be with her Lord at 3:05 a.m., Saturday, October 1, 2011, at St. John’s Regional Health Center surrounded by her family. She was born Sunday, November 25, 1935, to Clifford W. and Eva Ann (Estell) Austin at the farm near Manes, MO.
Verna married Robert J. “Bob” Barcomb on July 5, 1954, in Springfield, MO. She retired from Sears and Roebuck, Co. and was a member of both the Queen City Chapter #226 Order of the Eastern Star, Springfield, where she held office as Worthy Matron, and Willard Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and Order of The Amaranth. Verna’s greatest joy in life was her family and being “Mom” to everyone. She invited guests into her home with open arms, always certain to make them feel welcome. Her warmth and loving spirit was always felt; no one left Grandma’s house feeling hungry
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bob. Verna is survived by sons: Robert A. Barcomb and his wife Cindy Kay of Nixa, Ronald Barcomb and his wife Cindy Ann of Ozark; two daughters: Sheila Barcomb, of Nixa, Marilyn Petinaris and her husband Spyros, of Nixa; seven granddaughters, Ashley, Lindsay and her husband Adam Reichert, Abby, Jessica and her husband Blake Davis, Amy, Lydia, and Joanna; a great-grandson Braden; two brothers, four sisters and their spouses; one brother and one sister in-law; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2011, at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 E. Seminole, Springfield.
Mass of Christian Burial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at Saint Agnes Cathedral, 533 S. Jefferson Ave., with The Reverend Michael McDevitt celebrant.
