Verna “Sissy” Nita Maxine (Hunt) Wood Baker born November 12, 1935 in Ruth, Mo., daughter of Jesse and Velma Hunt, Reeds Spring, Mo., was called into the heavenly realms on March 20, 2011 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family and friends.
She was a native and long time resident of southern Missouri but resided for a number of years in Yuma, Az. and Wichita, Ks. She retired after working many years serving others in the healthcare field and through volunteer work. Verna was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed and did so through a golden heart.
She is survived by her son, Verlin Franklin Jones, Savanah, Mo.; daughter and son-in-law, Emmale and Allan Judycki, Nixa, Mo.; daughter, Cyrillus “Cookie” Wood, Springfield, Mo.; just-like-a-daugher and son-in-law, Connie and Michael McCoy, Springfield, Mo.; sister, Eva Johnson, Ozark, Mo.; sister, Vera Patrick, California; sister-in-law, Thelma Hermilla, Springfield, Mo.; sister-in-law, Billie Wood, Ozark, Mo.; nineteen grandchildren; a whole bunch of great-grandchildren; and a handful of great-great grandchildren, as well as an infinite number of other relatives and dear friends who love her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Velma Hunt; brothers, Joe A. Hunt and John B. Hunt; son, Monte Wood; daughter, Jeannie Moore; her loving husband, Jerry Baker; and many other beloved family member and friends.
Funeral services will be held in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, 3506 N. National, on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. Immediatley followed by a gathering of family and friends at Connie and Michael’s home, Springfield, Mo. A visitation will be on Friday, March 25 from 6-8 p.m. also in the funeral home.
