Verne E. Myers, 86, of Springfield passed away peacefully on May 28, 2012. He was born June 20, 1925 in Tulsa to Lloyd and Grace Myers. He was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 44 years, daughter Deborah Walkenhorst, step-daughter and husband Brenda and Paul Hilburn, step-daughter Linda Goodman.
He is survived by sons Dave and Don Myers, step-sons Ken (Mimi) Grozinger and Jim Grider, step-daughter Karen Sue Lowry (Joe Polo), brother Dale (Connie) Myers and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Verne graduated Rogersville, Class of 43.
He owned and operated Verne’s Foreign Motors in Springfield from 1952 to 1978. He loved riding motorcycles and restoring antique cars and bikes for show. He was proud to have ridden one million miles on motorcycles throughout his lifetime and toured the country at every opportunity.
Verne’s Foreign Motors was a local hangout over the years for many customers and staff who were like family to him. He was a charter member of the American Motorcycle Association, he founded the local BMW Road Riders, belonged to Ozark Steam Engine Assoc., Ozarks Antique Auto and many other clubs. He was a regular at several craft fairs and parades. His restored cars, motorcycles, antique gasoline engines and scooters won cases of trophies for his fine workmanship and he was known globally for his mechanical abilities.
His legacy lives on in the lives he touched.
Funeral Services 10:00 am, Saturday, June 2, Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Visitation 1-hour prior to services 9 to 10 am, Saturday. Burial will be in Bellview Cemetery.
