Vernon Reed, 62, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on January 20, 2025.
Vernon was raised by Otho Reed and Connie Reed, who loved and supported him throughout his life. He spent most of his life doing what he loved—working with his hands. A mechanic by trade, he had a natural gift for fixing things. If something was broken, Vernon was already figuring out how to take it apart and put it back together again.
Almost always right there beside him was his brother, Richard. Whether turning a wrench, offering advice, or simply keeping him company, Richard was there through countless projects. The two shared more than tools—they shared time, teamwork, and a bond built on loyalty and family.
Vernon was an incredible uncle. He was the kind of uncle everyone hopes for—always ready to help, protect, and show up without hesitation. No matter what they needed, Vernon was there at the drop of a hat, without question.
Known for being loud in the best way, Vernon was full of life, helpful to a fault, and dependable in every sense of the word. His presence filled a room, and his generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Vernon is survived by his brother Richard Reed (Katie Reed); his sisters Shirley Reed, Joetta Curry, Karen Miller (Reed), Cindy Reed, Christy Reed, Verna Reed, and Ruby Davis (Reed); his niece Hannah Carr (Dalton Carr); and his beloved great-nieces and nephew, Analise Carr and Dawson Carr, who brought him so much joy.
He will be remembered for his big heart, his love of fixing things, and the way he showed up—again and again—for the people he loved. Vernon will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Vernon’s life will be held at a later date.
